Boy Meets Groove

Boy Meets Groove is the self released debut album by Denver area composer, producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist, Eric Blumer. Boy Meets Groove features nine original compositions, all recorded in the basement of his Colorado home.

Eric Blumer is a drummer, but also performs on guitars, keyboards, synthesizer and percussion. Eric was joined by Jason Klobnak on trumpet (J’s Ruckus), Elijah Samuels on saxophone, and Lonnie Motley on bass (P Funk All Star Alumni, George Clinton, Chaka Khan, Kid Rock). Other bassists featured are Bob Songster (Spherio) and Todd Edmunds (Otis Taylor Band). On mandolin Blumer was joined by national flat-picking champ, Tyler Grant (Grant Farm, Emmitt-Nershi Band).

Eric composed and recorded numerous songs (or tunes), mixed and edited audio and video. Nine tracks were selected for this album, each has a unique groove.

No song ever overstays its welcome, with the melodies catchy and lyrical and the solos fitting in like a corner piece on a jigsaw puzzle. Musical home movies to keep replaying.” - George Harris

My Story

About Eric Blumer

I grew up in small town North Dakota. Early on, I was spinning records. That's me on the right with my cousin Nelson.

I started drumming on pots and pans. Then my older brother got a drum set so naturally I started playing on that (when he wasn't around.) When I was nine, I was invited to perform "Wipe Out" at the local university variety show.

I played in bands throughout high school, college, and after (between 500 to 1000 gigs, rock, jazz, polkas, waltzes, and country.)

I met and studied a number of legendary drummers, including Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Louie Bellson, Ed Shaughnessy, Carmine Appice.

My music is greatly influenced by The Beatles. They were the soundtrack to my childhood. Other musical influences were Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Santana, James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Earth Wind and Fire, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Steely Dan, Dave Brubeck, Chuck Mangione, Van Halen, Weather Report, Little Feat, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Stevie Wonder, Sting,  Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and others.

While I was in college, I decided not to pursue a professional music career. Instead I decided to become a television news photographer, editor, producer, writer... a video storyteller. I earned top national and international awards for my creative work as a video journalist, yet work daily on different news stories. Being a TV news photographer has been exciting, challenging, at times very grueling yet always interesting.

On many days and nights I was not out covering news, sports and weather, I was composing, writing and recording music. I have many other compositions, recordings and songs, and would like to publish and release them as well.

I hope you enjoy "Boy Meets Groove."

It's impossible to categorize my music into one style because I am composing in different styles. For my debut project, I decided these nine instrumentals were the most cohesive. The variety is evident. I think this album, Boy Meets Groove is unique, inventive, melodic, rhythmic, syncopated, and groovy.

I grew up in small town North Dakota. At the age of five I found my groove marching along-side the high school marching band while memorizing the drum cadence. At nine years old I was invited to perform "Wipe Out" at the local university. By the time I finished college, I had played 500 to 1000 live gigs with different bands, including a polka and waltz dance band.

I met and studied a number of legendary drummers, including Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Louie Bellson, Ed Shaughnessy, Carmen Appice.

My biggest influence was The Beatles. I was also influenced by The Tijuana Brass, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Santana, James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Earth Wind and Fire, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Steely Dan, Dave Brubeck, Chuck Mangione, Van Halen, Weather Report, Little Feat, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and more.

Then, I decided not to pursue a professional music career. I instead made a career as a national and international award winning video journalist - TV News Photographer.

But I never lost my groove. The wait is over. I am excited to release my debut album, Boy Meets Groove. I hope you enjoy it!
